OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE: TUTOR-MENTORS

Many of the children that tutors work with are performing below their expected academic grade level. Tutors will communicate with staff members of AWebb to determine student needs and lesson plans.

OUR GOALS
• Provide academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually
• Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying
• Help students develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work
• Help students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas
• Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas
• Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success
• Serve as a role model for students being served

RESPONSIBILITIES
Tutors must commit to work at least one semester and are encouraged to stay longer if possible. Consistent, ongoing support is necessary for the children, therefore, all tutors are expected to honor the term of their commitment, and must give two weeks written notification to 4 (Y)Our Kids and their own school (if appropriate) before terminating employment.

ALL TUTOR-MENTORS MUST• Complete one (1) in-service training per semester
• Tutors must provide their own transportation
• Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances will be grounds for dismissal
• Complete two evaluations of each child during the semester (dates to be determined)

HOURS AND LOCATION
• Tutors must commit to work a minimum of 3 hours per week
• Tutors may use a small percentage of their time preparing tutoring materials and performing required assignments
• Tutors must arrange a work schedule with 4 (Y)Our Kids
• Tutoring sites are located throughout the five (5) boroughs of New York City

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
• Independent Contractor, flat pay scale.

ADDITIONAL
Tutors will receive a performance letter at the end of the semester. If any tutor is interested in continuing on with the 4 (Y)Our Kids TUTOR/MENTOR program, they will then be considered for an hourly and/or part time position as a Lead Tutor. Subsequent employment terms will be discussed at that time.

We work with accredited schools to satisfy intern requirements. For consideration, forward your resume to info@4yourkids.org or by fax to (347) 710-2345.
